Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Gradually add all-purpose flour and kosher salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Shape the dough into a ball, cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes.
  4. After rising, punch down the dough and divide into 8 pieces. Roll each into a long rope and shape into a pretzel.
  5. Preheat the oven to 425°F. In a large pot, bring water and baking soda to a gentle boil. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds on each side.
  6. Transfer boiled pretzels to a baking sheet, sprinkle with sea salt, and bake for 20 minutes until golden brown.
